Philippines

Context:

The Philippines declared a food security emergency to bring down the price of rice.

Philippines

  • It is an island country in Southeast Asia in the western Pacific Ocean. 
  • It is an archipelago consisting of more than 7,000 islands and islets.
  • Capital: Manila
  • Highest Point: Mount Apo.
  • Major Rivers: Cagayan River (Río Grande de Cagayán), Mindanao, Agusan etc.
  • The Cagayan is the longest river in the Philippines.

Context:

Recently, Argentina announced its withdrawal from the World Health Organization (WHO).

  • It is South America’s second-largest country after Brazil.
  • At least one-half, or 3600 km, of the Andes range (the world’s longest continental mountain range) extends along the western boundary of Argentina. 
  • Capital: City of Buenos Aires
  • Major rivers: Parana, Paraguay, Uruguay, etc.
  • Highest peak: Cerro Aconcagua.

Context:

The Department of Youth Affairs, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports is organizing the BIMSTEC Youth Summit in Gandhinagar, Gujarat.

Gandhinagar

  • The city is located on the banks of the Sabarmati River, in north-central-east Gujarat state. 
  • Gandhinagar city became the capital of Gujarat in 1970 (Earlier the capital was Ahmedabad from 1960 to 1970).
  • Gandhinagar has a tropical wet and dry climate. 

Kappatralla Reserve Forest

Context:

Human Rights Forum (HRF) in Andhra Pradesh has urged the government to pass a resolution in the state Assembly assuring that there would be no uranium exploration in the Kappatralla Reserve Forest.

Kappatralla Reserve Forest

  • It is located in the Kurnool district in Andhra Pradesh.
  • Kappatralla RF is located in the Pathikonda section of the Adoni forest range.
  • The Kappatralla Reserve Forest, stretching over 1157 acres is catchment for the Gajuladinne Project (GDP) renamed as Sanjeevaiah Sagar, a medium irrigation project in Gonegandla mandal.
  • These reserve forests are famous for their Uranium reserves.
  • Kappatralla RF is home to foxes, wild boars, porcupines, star turtles and peacocks.

Bhopal

Context:

Recently, Bhopal has prohibited begging across all public places, including giving alms.

Bhopal

  • Bhopal is the capital of Madhya Pradesh.
  • It is located between the Vindhya and Satpura mountain ranges.
  • It is located on the Malwa Plateau.
  • Climate: Humid Subtropical climate
  • Prominent Hills in the city: Idgah hills, Shyamla hills, Katara Hills etc.
  • Betwa River originates from the Vidhya range near Bhopal city.
